Established in 2007

Although we started our business in 2007, our passion for sharing delicious Indonesian cuisine started much, much earlier.

Ben had been making tempeh since 1982 when his family emigrated from Indonesia to California. Ben’s mother was born and raised in Malang, but she missed eating authentic tempeh from her hometown, so Ben and his mother started to make tempeh for their own consumption. It did not take long before people heard that they were making tempeh, so others began to order tempeh from Ben and his mother.

In 1998, Ben met Claudia, who was born in the town of Sukabumi, Indonesia. Soon enough, they became married and started a family. Claudia loves eating noodle and meatballs, so Ben’s passion for cooking and making Claudia happy lead him to start making Indonesian-style noodles at home. Eventually, in 2007, Ben and Claudia rented a warehouse and started a side business named Budiman Food. With their business started, they were able to make tempeh and noodles for everyone.
